Sri Lanka is the only place in the world to experience two monsoons, which make it the place of choice to grow superior spices, particularly the native cinnamon. After an enlightening time visiting and immersing themselves in the local spice farms and culture, Grounded Pleasures brought some of this bounty home to share. They aim to emulate the flavourful experience of getting a Chai from a street Chai Wallah with an exotic blend of the best spices, tea and Organic Jaggery Sugar.

The minimally processed Jaggery – evaporated, unrefined, sugar cane juice, retains all its delectable molasses flavours as well as its beneficial minerals and nutrients. The lovely high notes, depth and complexity of these remarkable, exquisite spices and no additives or fillers let this blend shine and show off what a remarkable, fecund, jewel of an island Sri Lanka is. Close relationships with the spice growers are crucial to the quality and success of the chai. To this end, Grounded Pleasures gives direct financial support to development of the spice growing communities, including initiatives helping with organic certification. Grounded Pleasures cocoa has a lovely chocolate flavour which evolves into delightful, complex, fruity characteristics that can be likened to dried muscatels or cherries. This is finished by a very pleasant, lingering aftertaste. They are constantly tasting, testing and evolving their recipe to keep making a better drinking chocolate.

Grounded Pleasures chocolate is ethically sourced direct from the growers for the individual flavour profiles. 99% plus of the worlds cocoa market is dominated by big cocoa multi-nationals who blend for a flavour profile rather than a region. Founder Craig McKenzie forms strong relationships with the growers and their region and makes a commitment to give at least 5% of the profits back to supporting community development. To that end they help support a hospital and a school in the village where the cocoa comes from.
