Built in the 1930s, prior to the arrival of the radio and television, amusement parks were largely a place for throwing parties and exciting entertainment. Hugely popular up to the early 1960s, they gradually faded into obscurity with the advent of shopping centres, discos and television before closing for good in the 70s and 80s.
